Roy’s Legislative Record
Roy has been busy as your Representative. Over the last three years he has studied and investigated several issues and was very thoughtful about which bills he would take up. As a result Roy has authored and introduced 22 bills – 4 of which have been signed in to law. He has co-sponsored 277 bills (not including the 22 above) – 27 of which were signed in to law.
Number One: Jobs
Jobs. That is the number one issue facing our state right now. We need jobs. We have now enacted several laws that are designed to create a stronger job market. To be honest with you, I didn’t support a lot of them. I have some fundamental arguments with the Governor’s ideas. But, like you, I will have to wait to see how it all shakes out. I hope the Governor’s plan will create good paying jobs for the people of Grand Rapids and Michigan.

Number Two: End Youth Violence
Without question the number one issue for me centers on children. We have an alarming rate of violent crimes against children, all too often by other children. I want to work towards some sensible solutions to the despair that is keeping our kids from achieving in school and in life.
Number Three: Education for All
If we are going to end the disparity between our urban kids and their counterparts in more affluent parts of the Grand Rapids area we have to dig deeper into the causes and make sure that our schools are getting the support they need to succeed.

Number Four: One City – One Voice
Because of the way the 76th District is now configured it presents us with an enormous opportunity to unite people throughout the City. If one was to look at the new boundaries of the district it would appear as though they were drawn to divide the city. I think we can bring people together!
